Manhattan Beach was incorporated on December 12, 1912, as a residential and recreational beach destination on Santa Monica Bay. The city spans 3.94 square miles along the southern coast of Los Angeles County, positioned between El Segundo and Redondo Beach. The waterfront is one of the region's defining features: a continuous 2.1-mile sandy beach approximately 400 feet wide, expanded significantly during the late 20th century through sand placement from nearby construction.

Today the city is known for substantial oceanfront and near-beach property values. According to city records, median residential home prices rank among the highest in the region, and the school district—Manhattan Beach Unified—is consistently ranked among California's top-performing districts. The city maintains extensive public amenities including a concrete bike path extending north to Santa Monica and south to Torrance, lifeguard stations, and daily beach grooming by LA County.

Planning for financial stability is a priority for families in a community where housing costs and property taxes are substantial. A life insurance policy sized to the mortgage, children's education, and years until independence is a concrete step toward ensuring that the lifestyle and opportunities a family has built can continue even if income is suddenly interrupted.
