The Manhattan Beach waterfront is one of Southern California's major recreational draws. More than 3.8 million visitors come annually to the beach for water sports including surfing, swimming, body boarding, and beach volleyball. The wide sandy beach and consistent swells make El Porto, at the northern end of the beach, and the area near the Manhattan Beach Pier recognized points for surfers. The beach is groomed daily and monitored by lifeguards year-round.

Since 1960, the beach has hosted the Manhattan Beach Open, a professional volleyball tournament held each August that draws thousands of spectators and is considered one of the most prestigious beach volleyball events in North America. The tournament showcases both professional and amateur athletes, with winners commemorated on the Volleyball Walk of Fame along the pier. The event's scale and prestige have made Manhattan Beach synonymous with professional beach sports.

Families and individuals who spend significant time on the water or engaged in recreation face different financial priorities than those in less active communities. Water sports come with inherent risks, and the need to protect dependents remains constant. Term life insurance matched to a family's specific situation—the years of mortgage, children at home, education goals—addresses that need without paying for coverage that is no longer necessary once those milestones pass.
